Genome editing technology attracts a lot of attention today and it has come to be picked up in the media. Meanwhile, although much discussion has been made on the usefulness and utilization on the technology from the academic point of view, there has been no opportunity that all stakeholders such as researchers, developers, producers, distributors, consumers, and media meet and discuss about the technology all together. “Forum to Support Future Foods” will be held to bring all whose lives could be impacted by application of genome editing technology in food/agricultural areas and create a unique opportunity that the participants share their ideas, ask and answer questions, and make sure that their voices are heard. We are aiming to create an opportunity that participants’ ideas can be shared through panel discussions and electric polling and etc.

“How does the frontier of breeding technology relate to the view of future food we expect?”

Today, we enjoy abundant foods which is supported by various technological innovations in the agricultural field. One of them is progress in breeding technology. In this session, we will consider how our diet changes when we apply the latest genome editing technology in breeding. We are aiming to discuss similarities and differences of conventional breeding technologies and genome editing technology, safety aspect, as well as what impacts we will have in our future foods by applying/not applying this technology in plant breeding by listening to experts’ commentary.

In addition, we are aiming to discuss what researchers are targeting to achieve by using the technology, what challenges they face to achieve their goals, and how to address such challenges.
